Hermissenda opalescens (J. G. Cooper, 1863)

Hermissenda opalescens inhabit the intertidal zone of rocky shores, bays and estuaries and tidepools. It feeds on hydroids,ascidians ,sea anemones and smaller specimens of its own species.Extremly similar is Hermissenda crassicornis.Both distribution overlaps in Northern California ,but Hermissenda crassicornis can be found north to Alaska.

Hermissenda opalescens is host to the ectoparasites Halicyclops thysanotus.Halicyclops is a genus of copepods belonging to the family Cyclopidae and found in brackish habitats throughout the world.

Similar to Hermissenda opalescens.The white stripes on the cerata, that makes it a Hermissenda crassicornis!
