Info

(Nutting, 1909)

This azooxanthellate gorgonian comes from an Indonesian import, the distribution has not been researched further.
The colonies must be fed several times a day with fine powdered food.
The polyps close if there is a lack of food.
The husbandry requirements are therefore identical to other azooxanthellate gorgonians.
In addition to continuous feeding, a laminar current (with the fan side facing the current!) is important.
The colony can tolerate light.
Polyp expansion does not follow a day/night rhythm.

Diameter of the exposed tentacle crown
approx. 2 mm, length of tentacles approx. 0.5 mm.
Freshly hatched Artemia puparia or frozen plankton (e.g. Cyclops) appear to be utilized by the gorgonian.

Closely related species: Swiftia exserta.
In contrast to Swiftia exserta, Callistephanus kofoidi forms a narrower fan.

Special features: This gorgonian appears to be the host gorgonian of the pygmy seahorse.

According to Harald's Gorgoninlexikon, this animal is a deep-sea gorgonian that occurs between 750 - 1300 meters deep.
It only occurs in the North Pacific Ocean.
