Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Eunicea pallida are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Eunicea pallida, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Eunicea pallida, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Very specíal thanks for the first photo of Eunicea tayrona to Prof. Dr. Charles G. Messing, Nova Southeastern University, USA.

This gorgonian is characterised by bushy, small colony with few branches, its branches arising near the base are brittle with terminal nodules.

Eunicea pallida does not form slime.

Colour: Pale, white, beige to light brown.

Habitat: Pre-reef terraces.

Distribution: Rare in southern Florida and the Caribbean.

Remarks: Very rare and difficult to distinguish; morphologically similar to Eunicea fusca and with asexual vegetative forms similar to Eunicea flexuosa.
