Info
We would like to thank Fredrik Eder from Norway for the great first photo of this species.
Paramuricea placomus is a deep-sea gorgonian that can be encountered at greater depths up to 1600 meters, in Trondheim Fjord it has been observed in some places at depths around 25 - 30 meters.
These large and dense colonies are known to have many subtenants, especially amphipods and isopods.
6500 such small crabs were found on a single marine bush only 35 cm high!
Paramuricea placomus occurs in two color morphs, one yellow and one purple.
The coral is considered as "Hard bottom gorgonian", because it always settles and grows on rocks and stones.
Synonyms:
Gorgonia placomus Linnaeus, 1758 (original combination)
Paramuricea borealis Verrill
