No other finds are known outside the range of Baker Island, Phoenix Islands, Kiribati, and the Phoenix Islands.
Etymology.
This gorgonian was named in honor of Count Louis François Pourtalès (1824-1880), an early contributor to our knowledge of the deep-sea scleractinia of the Deep Sea Sclerotia, Stylasteridae, and Octocorallia (Agassiz 1905), and author of the closely related species Calyptrophora trilepis.
