Info
Candidella helminthophora is another deep-water gorgonian that lives in very cold to frigid waters and can only be studied in more detail using remotely operated underwater vehicles such as an ROV.
As commercial fisheries move into deeper and deeper water zones of the oceans due to technological advancements in fishing gear, deep-water corals are also regularly torn from the substrate and landed by trawl or tow nets.
Through the use of camera systems, deep-sea gorgonians can be observed and collected in great detail to make species determinations.
As can be seen very clearly in the main image of Candidella helminthophora, there are numerous brittle stars in the gorgonian.

Synonym: Stenella helminthophora Nutting, 1908
