Info

Mugil curema is dependent on estuaries along sandy coasts and also occurs in littoral pools, muddy bottoms, and brackish lagoons, sometimes invading rivers and living above coral reefs.
Juveniles are usually found in bays and estuaries with underwater vegetation.
Average life expectancy is about 19 years.

Males and females reach sexual maturity between 18 - 20.8 cm TL, males reach sexual maturity at about two years of age, females at three years of age.
Spawning occurs offshore along the outer continental shelf, eggs and sperm are released simultaneously.

Juveniles are omnivorous and feed primarily on plankton. Juvenile and adult Mugil curema feed primarily on sediment particles, detritus, diatoms, and algae.
Mugilidae species are generally hardy and capable of rapid growth.
