Info

This False boarfish varies in body coloration from copper brown in smaller individuals to grayish brown in larger fish.
The habitat of the animal is at greater depths with strong currents, wave crests, reef slopes, rocky reefs with gorgonian growth.

Usually live boar fish (Neocyttus helgae) can be photographed and filmed only by manned and unmanned underwater vehicles.
Accordingly, the information about this deep-water inhabitant is incomplete, so far only two observations about a possible feeding of the species are available, one describes a bite into a sea sponge.
The second report refers to the taking of an organic particle from the seafloor.
