Info

The Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ) covers 4.5 million square kilometers between Hawaii and Mexico Central Pacific, it is a deep-sea plain as wide as the continental United States and interrupted by seamounts.

Abyssoprimnoa gemina is a small uniplanar, dichotomously branched colony with paired spherical polyps.

Abyssoprimnoa gemina is among the deepest known octocorals. Several in situ photos of this species are in the Atlas of Abyssal Megafauna.

Etymology
The genus name "Abyssoprimnoa" (from Latin "abyssus"), meaning "bottomless pit",but in conventional oceanographic terminology means a depth range between 3500 and 6500 meters.

Etymology
The species name "gemina" (from Latin "geminus"), means twin birth), in allusion to its paired polyps.
