Info
Manukau Harbour, New Zealand, seems to be the only place where this species has been found intertidally.
Cabestana tabulata has a conspicuous dark pubescence, the periostracum. It is smaller than Cabestana spengleri and has a broader shape, finer ribs and flatter nodules than its close relative.
The shell is often worn (hairless) and covered with coralline algae, but this species can still be identified by the reddish foot with white spots if the upturned animal is examined quickly before the foot retracts behind the operculum.
This triton feeds on sea squirts and is most commonly found on moderately exposed coastlines.
