Palaemonella smiti (Fransen & Holthuis, 2007)
Although it is a shrimp that was only newly described in 2007 as Vir Smiti, it was renamed Palaemonelle smiti after further research. It occurs in the Indo-West Pacific and lives mainly associated with the bubble coral Physogyra lichtensteini,
Coloring: Body translucent with reddish-brown intestine; eyestalk with two thin reddish-brown longitudinal lines and a few isolated white chromatophores; Flagella of antenna and antennae red-brown; third upper jaw with reddish-brown longitudinal line; anterior appendages with scattered yellow and white chromatophores at base; first and second pereiopods translucent without or with a very faint thin reddish-brown longitudinal line; third, fourth and fifth pereiopods with reddish-brown longitudinal lines; Ovary and eggs beige.
Host: Physogyra lichtensteini (Milne Edwards & Haime, 1851), Euphyllidae, Scleractinia.
Color differences between Palaemonella smiti and Palaemonella philippinensis:
• Antennae flagella reddish brown in Palaemonella smiti; basically violet-blue and distally red in Palaemonella philippinensis.
• With yellow chromatophores between the eyes and forelimbs in Palaemonella smiti; without yellow chromatophores in Palaemonella philippinensis.
• The first two pereiopods in Palaemonella smiti are completely transparent; with purple-blue thin longitudinal line in Palaemonella philippinensis.
• Third to fifth pereiopod with reddish-brown thin longitudinal lines in Palaemonella smiti; with violet-blue lines in Palaemonella philippinensis.
