Info

Habuprionovolva aenigma (M. Azuma & C. N. Cate, 1971)

Habuprionovolva choshiensis (C. N. Cate, 1973) was later assigned to the genus Prionovolva Prionovolva -> Prionovolva choshiensis (C. N. Cate, 1973)

Habuprionovolva aenigma is a predatory species that feeds on soft corals. The snail is regularly found on soft corals of the genus Dendronephthiidae.

Etymology:
The species name comes from Latin and means “riddle” and from ancient Greek “αἴνιγμα” “for dark speech, riddle” and probably refers to the fact that there was something mysterious or unusual about the discovery or identification of this species – for example, in relation to its morphology, taxonomic classification or habitat.

The following species are known from the genus Habuprionovolva:
Habuprionovolva aenigma (M. Azuma & C. N. Cate, 1971)
Habuprionovolva basilia (C. N. Cate, 1978
Habuprionovolva hervieri (Hedley, 1899)
Habuprionovolva umbilicata (G. B. Sowerby II, 1849)
