Fungiacyathus (Bathyactis) marenzelleri is a solitary, azooxanthellate deep-sea stony coral. It is very small, but holds the “record in Guisses' Book of Marine Corals” as it is the deepest known stony coral. It can live at a depth of up to 6,328 meters, in a cold, surreal environment with a pressure of over 600 bar, That's 6,000 tons per square meter or 600 kg per square centimeter!
The corallite of Fungiacyathus (Bathyactis) marenzelleri is fragile, light, and disc-shaped, with a very thin (0.15 mm), flat to slightly domed, circular base up to 27 mm in diameter in specimens from the North Pacific.
The costae are thin, finely toothed, slightly twisted ridges up to 1 mm high.
The color of the corallites is white or light brown.
