Info

Rhopalaea macrothorax is a solitary species with a characteristic dark blue line surrounding the mouth siphon and extending along the endostyle to the rear end of the thorax.
Another distinguishing feature are six yellow pigment spots extending across the mouth siphon.

The sea squirt was originally described from Sagami Bay, Japan, but the suspension feeder is now quite widespread and will continue to conquer other regions in the future.

Etymology:
The species name “macrothorax” is composed of the Greek word “macro” for “large” or ‘long’ and the Latin word “thorax.”
