Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Alveopora minuta are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Alveopora minuta, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Alveopora minuta, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Husbandry

“From Veron, J.E.N. Corals of the World.”

Alveopora minuta
Veron, 2000

Characters: Colonies are composed of short irregularly dividing knob-like branches. Corallites have no septa or one or two septa reduced to a single spine. A palisade of vertical spines occurs above the wall. Corallites are as small as many species of Porites (approximately 1 mm diameter) although this species always looks Alveopora-like underwater.

Colour: Greenish-brown.

Habitat: Rocky surfaces exposed to currents.

Abundance: Rare.

Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Cnidaria (Phylum) > Anthozoa (Class) > Hexacorallia (Subclass) > Scleractinia (Order) > Acroporidae (Family) > Alveopora (Genus) > Alveopora minuta (Species)

Similar species: Alveopora verrilliana Source reference: Veron (2000). Taxonomic reference: Veron (2002).
