Info

Ecsenius trilineatus Springer, 1972

Distribution
Western Central Pacific: known only from the small islands in the Moluccas, New Guinea and eastward to Florida Island, Solomon Islands.

Short description
Distinctive species, easily identified by the thin dark lines and bright white spots. The Bali specimens are generally paler and have smaller white spots than those from Flores and Sangihe Islands but this maybe habitat related.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
