Toxicity

Muraena robusta is (very) poisonous and the poison can kill you under circumstances!!!
If you want to keep Muraena robusta, inform yourself about the poison and its effects before buying. Keep a note with the telephone number of the poison emergency call and all necessary information about the animal next to your aquarium so that you can be helped quickly in an emergency.
The telephone numbers of the poison emergency call can be found here:

This message appears for poisonous, very poisonous and also animals whose poison can kill you immediately. Every human reacts differently to poisons. Please therefore weigh the risk for yourself AND your environment very carefully, and never act lightly!

Info

Osório, 1911

Distribution
Eastern Atlantic: Mauritania to Namibia, including Cape Verde and probably the islands of the Bay of Biafra.
Western Central Atlantic: Colombia.

Biology
Inhabits shallow water and feeds on crustaceans and fishes.

Synonymised taxa:
Gymnothorax galetae Rubinoff, 1966
Gymnothorax nevezi Roux, 1957
Murenophis robustus (Osório, 1911)

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
