Info

(Sebens & Laakso, 1978)

With a stately diameter of about 20 cm, the sea dahlia becomes more ready than high. The column is reddish and resembles the tropical anemone Radianthus magnifica.
The mouth disc is orange, the long tentacles are whitish.

As the name suggests, this species is capable of catching and eating small fish and shrimp. To do this, it uses its tentacles and nets its prey with a powerful toxin that paralyzes them. However, Oxylebius pictus (the painted green shrimp) and Lebbeus grandimanus (candy striped shrimp) have the ability to stay between the tentacles without being harmed. The stinging power of the anemone is also painful to humans.

Possibility of confusion is with Urticina crassicornis.

Synonym: Tealia piscivora
