Phymanthus loligo is a relatively small, variably colored anemone that lies flat on the bottom with its stalk and base down in the sand. It is found on a range of lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. Specimens are typically solitary and up to about 15cm in diameter.

Phymanthus loligo is a relatively small, variably colored anemone lying flat on the ground. Trunk and foot are hidden in the sand. The sand anemone is found in a range of lagoon, pinnacle, and seaward reefs. The specimens are typically found solitary and have a diameter of up to 15 cm.
