Protula tubularia (Montagu, 1803)

Protula tubularia forms white, calcareous tubes on hard substratum in the lower shore,to depths of 100 m im shady areas.The colour of the slightly spiralled tentacles are white, orange or pink.
The red-spotted horseshoe tube worm is a filter feeder, feeding on plankton.

Ich habe das Vergnügen auch dieses Tier zu halten, die Bedingungen sind dieselben wie bei Protula intestinum. Protula tubularia ist grösser. Ich füttere sie genauso wie die anderen Kalkröhrenwürmer: Staubfutter direkt in die Röhre rieseln lassen. Die Würmer scheinen sich an diese Art der Fütterung zu "gewöhnen"- auch wenn es nicht ihrer natürlichen Erhährungsweise entspricht. Natürlich fangen die Würmer auch weiterhin Partikel aus dem Wasser, aber die Zufütterung zeigt Erfolg: Nach jeder Fütterung bauen sie ein bisschen an der Röhre (eine Haut legt sich über den Röhrenrand und der Wurm beginnt mit drehenden Bewegungen eine neue Schicht aufzutragen), koten und die Tiere selbst scheinen zu wachsen. Der Kronendurchmesser nimmt zu und die Windungen ebenfalls.
