The background colour can be translucent white, lemon yellow to a deep orange.On the body are white lines.This white lines gave Doriopsilla miniata the common name "Scribbled nudibranch". In rare cases there are no white lines.
Very similar is Doriopsilla areolata from the Atlantic. Both sea slugs differ in egg morphology.
Doriopsilla miniata feeds exlusively on sponges.
