Info

Dawson, 1974

This Sailfin stargazer is endemic to the Eastern Pacific, and is restricted to fewer than five locations off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and Panama! Platygillellus altivelis inhabits sandy substrate in a depth range of 3 to 37 meters, the stargazer feed on small fishes and benthic invertebrates.

Similar species: Platygillellus rubellulus

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
