Very special thanks for the first photo of a living Bodianus tanyokidus to S-Otsubo, Japan and Ken from Zukan.com for managing the conversation and the permission to use S-Otsubo photo!!
This species is known from five specimens collected at three localities, the Comoro Islands and Mauritius in the Indian Ocean and Okinawa in the Pacific with additional records from Guam, but is probably more widely distributed within the range, however it is a deeper water species and not commonly seen.
Similar species: Bodianus neopercularis, Bodianus opercularis und Bodianus sanguineus
Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Chordata (Phylum) > Vertebrata (Subphylum) > Gnathostomata (Superclass) > Pisces (Superclass) > Actinopterygii (Class) > Perciformes (Order) > Labroidei (Suborder) > Labridae (Family) > Bodianus (Genus) > Bodianus tanyokidus (Species)
Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
