Info
Paragorgia arborea is a cold water deep sea coral, which could not form a symbiosis with zooxanthellae, because it lives down to depths of more than 1.5 kilometers, in these extreme depths no sunlight reaches anymore.
The coral is visually very appealing with its dark pink coloration, the same is true for its namesake "bubblegum" structure, which has earned it the name "bubblegum coral".
Small scale worms are regularly found on the coral, but it is unclear whether this is a symbiotic or parasitic community.
Synonyms:
Paragorgia nodosa Koren & Danielssen, 1883
Paragorgia pacifica Verrill, 1922
