Callogorgia gilberti is a deep sea gorgonian endemic only around the Hawaiiian Islands and on Cross Seamount, seamount far southwest of the Hawaiiian archipelago.
This coral forms dense bushy branches in which plankton and marine snow can become entangled.
Deep-sea corals have create habitat for a wide variety of animals, often serve as nursery habitat for catsharks, and have mutually beneficial relationships with brittle stars.
