Info
Callogorgia americana is an azooxanthellate deep-sea horn coral endemic to the Western Atlantic and parts of the Caribbean.
Recent studies on coral-associated bacteria of the classes Mycoplasma and Mollicutes, which were first detected in the horn coral Callogorgia delta, are interesting.
The bacteria were not present in the water and were absent or rare in the sediment, but were detected in large numbers in the coral.
This community appears to be important for the health of the coral.
Following the detection of the bacteria in Callogorgia delta, the bacteria were also detected in Callogorgia americana.
