Info

Coral of the Xeniidae family, especially species with pumping movements are always very popular corals, despite their tendency to grow strongly and overgrow.
Xenia novaecaledoniae, however, does not stand out due to its rhythmic contraction and diastole phases (pulsation)!

Color: Medium, occasionally reddish-brown with a greyish shimmer (according to Xeniidae of the Red Sea by Dr. Götz-Bodo Reinecke)

The holotype of Xenia novaecaledoniae (Benayahu, 1990) had no sclerites, but the colonies from the Red Sea have considerable amounts of sclerites, possibly colonies from the Red Sea will be listed as a separate species in the future.
