Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Xenia blumi are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Xenia blumi, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Xenia blumi, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Colonies of Xenia blumi are usually small to medium sized, they can reach a height of up to 3cm, with the body stem taking up to 1.3cm of the total height.

Living colonies of Xenia blumi are light yellowish, white to brownish, depending on the distribution of the embedded sclerites that provide stability.
Pulsating pumping movements of the polyps have not been observed in colonies from the Red Sea.

Xenia blumi is not offered by importers and therefore does not enter domestic marine aquaria.

Synonym: Xenia plicata Schenk, 1896
