Info
In 2009, a female copepod was discovered at Burrewarra Point, south of Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia, and was described as Iphimedia poorei based on the illustrated female holotype.
Unfortunately, no information was provided regarding the habitat of this tiny crustacean; since there is no further scientific literature on Iphimedia poorei beyond the original description, questions regarding the species’ diet will have to remain unanswered for the time being.
In the ocean, this copepod plays an important role as a source of protein for larger carnivores within the food chain.
Etymology. The species was named after Dr. Gary C. B. Poore to honor his significant contributions to our understanding of crustaceans.
