This red encrusting sponge is found encrusting rocks and cables in lagoon areas.Encrusting sheet, thin fragile, but broad (10-20cm). Surface smooth and glossy with distinct branching 'veins'. Colour pale orange to reddish/red.
May be confused with encrusting ascidians; ascidians do not have 'veins'.
The sieve cowrie Cribrarula cribraria feeds on this encrusting sponge.
