The rare red sea squirt is endemic to the Mediterranean and is found solitary on various rock structures at depths of between 5 and 500 meters.
The animal consists of a gelatinous tube about 9 cm in size with two openings, a siphon with 8 cell lobes for swirling in and a siphon with 6 cell lobes for swirling out, the sea squirt can contract strongly.
The coloration of the sea squirt is red to orange, yellow dots may be present around the two siphons.
Sea squirts require a continuous influx of plankton and are on the menu of many marine nudibranchs.
