Pristiapogon is a genus of cardinalfish (Apogonidae).

Description Pristiapogon fraenatus: Clear to pink translucent with a single black stripe tapering from the eye to the middle of the base of the tail, often edged with pale iridescent white or blue. Black spot in the center of the base of the tail, level with the end of the stripe.

Possibility of confusion:
Pristiapogon exostigma has a black spot just above the middle of the base of the tail and the end of the stripe.
The front edge of the first dorsal fin is blackish.

Pristiapogon fraenatus is found in relatively clear waters in reefs and lagoons up to a depth of 50 meters.
The coral is often found at the base of coral stalks or under ledges, hidden under ledges during the day, singly or in small groups.

Pristiapogon fraenatus feeds on small invertebrates.
