This interestingly marked damselfish is endemic to the west coast of Australia between the Recherche Archipelago and the Houtman Abrolhos Archipelago, where the water of the Eastern Indian Ocean is significantly cooler than water on the coast of eastern Australia around the Great Barrier Reef.
Chromis klunzingeri is found in seaward and coastal coral reefs, information about keeping in German aquariums is not available to us, but possibly one or the other aquarist in Australia keeps this damselfish.
Divers and snorkelers can observe this Chromis quite well in the sea, because it stays in depths between 2 and 20 meters.
